Whether it is through a gift in a will or securities, or a gift of life insurance or retirement funds, legacy giving is a powerful way to enhance the quality of life for those living at and attending programs at Glacier View Lodge Society.  The gifts that cost you nothing now, can make a world of difference for someone in the future.

Glacier View Lodge is the Comox Valley's longest operating long term care home.  Our history dates back to an initiative in 1946 by the North Island Women's Institute.  Many members of the Comox Valley contributed land, money, manpower and time to create the first home in the 1950s and the our current home that opened in 1982.

By including the Lodge in your estate plans, you will be paying it forward to future generations of people needing our care and services.  You will be part of the caring tradition that had the foresight shared by our earlier community members.  They made it possible for care to be received in our community near the residents family and friends.  We invite you to help future residents to receive the expert care they deserve.  We invite you to help the Lodge create a home that is sustainable into the future; a home where people can thrive.

The Comox Valley has been dubbed the 'senior capital of Canada'.  With the senior population in Canada expected to exceed all other age groups by 2032, need has never been greater to strengthen and expand services in the Comox Valley.

Here are some options to consider in consultation with your advisors.

GIFT IN A WILL

A gift in your will has the power to change lives.  It may be the biggest gift you will ever make in your life, and yet it doesn't cost you anything during your lifetime.  A gift in your will reflects your values and beliefs and allows you to distribute your assets according to your wishes, while allowing you to the use of your assets during your lifetime.

GIFT OF SECURITIES

A donation of stocks, bonds or mutual funds is a financially sound way to enhance the lives of seniors living in Long Term Care.  While health care funding provides the basics, your dollars help to create a home where people can thrive.  Past donors have made it possible to update our interiors, create beautiful garden spaces, add innovating Rehabilitation and Recreation equipment, add a wing for a vibrant Adult Day Program, replace equipment and support quality enhancement programs like Music Therapy.  It is a simple, cost-effective and the most tax-efficient way to make a charitable gift today or through your estate.

It was through a generous gift in 2015 that allowed the Lodge to achieve the funding needed to build the new space for the Adult Day Program.  With our senior population growing, need has never been greater to look at the care needs of community members and their caregivers.

Similar to a cash donation, you will receive a receipt for the fully appreciated market value of your donation.  This results in a non-refundable tax credit to help reduce your income taxes.

GIFT OF RETIREMENT FUNDS

While many of us look forward to retirement, having planned for it by putting aside funds in a RSP or RRIF, far too many seniors find themselves without the means to retire comfortably.

A gift of retirement funds will go directly to help fun seniors most in need.  You can do this by designating Glacier View Lodge Society as a primary beneficiary.

GIFT OF LIFE INSURANCE

A gift of life insurance can turn a small annual contribution into a major gift that has the power to impact a wider group of seniors and caregivers.

You could purchase a new life insurance policy and name Glacier View Lodge Society as the beneficiary and name the Lodge on an existing policy.

OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP

• Support our annual Legacy of Light campaign that runs from November throughout the following year.  This campaign supports an annual quality enhancement project.
• Participate in The Grand Parade Comox Valley each September
• Become a monthly donor via the Canada Helps link on the website
• Make a one-time gift in honour or memory of someone you loved
