Supper Club provides Caregiver support and education

Glacier View Lodge is ready to begin the “Supper Club” in mid February 2020.  The Supper Club is a 12 week program for caregivers and their loved ones.     Vacancies currently available for both the Monday and Wednesday evening groups (3:30 – 7 p.m.)  There will be one more opportunity beginning in September 2020.

The Supper Club offers an opportunity for families affected by dementia to build a social network with others on the same journey. The activities enjoyed will allow each couple to explore and adapt leisure interests to maximize engagement. Lastly, the caregivers learn about dementia and successful communication. Fun and laughter is key to the program ~ the evening will incorporate social activities, memory games and exercises, and the creation of each person’s Memory Book. A component of the evening is caregiver support.

The evening will be hosted by Recreation Therapist Colleen Hussey, the creator of the Memories and More program. The Memories and More program was designed for those in the early to mid stages of dementia and their caregiver. Colleen is an experienced therapist who has offered this program numerous times. Past participants report that the education and activities offered during the program have helped greatly with their shared journey.

The program is offered in 12 week sessions. The program will be held at Glacier View Lodge in the newly renovated Day Centre. The evening includes dinner, as well as the program. The cost of the 12 week program is $60 per person. What a wonderful way to meet others, socialize and get some support for the challenges ahead!
